A simple and immediate way of reducing obesity in the United States would be for the colonists to change their weights and measures standards to metric. Overnight a two hundred and eighty pound person would drop in weight to a mere one hundred and twenty seven kilos. That's a reduction of over fifty percent. Even better, and if they don't want to ditch the imperial system (and being good royalists, why would they?) they should take a leaf out the Brit's book and make the stone the principal unit for large items such as the American body. Our corpulent friend would then weigh a mere twenty stones which, you must admit, sounds a lot better than two hundred and eighty pounds.
