Website operators in the UK may soon have to identify people who have posted defamatory messages online, allowing the victim to undertake legal action against the "troll" rather than against the website.

This is a real life English troll. He has just been given a six month suspended jail sentence.

If you are bothered by trolls DO NOT DELETE their comments from your spam files. Keep them, because once the legislation goes through you will be able to get Blogger to release their identity to you.

Fortunately, trolls tend to be international in their vitriolic commenting so I should be able to get details of US trolls as long as they leave comments on my blog. I may not be able to afford to prosecute American trolls but I will be able to publish their names and addresses as the offence is committed in the country in which the comment is received.

What I am really looking forward to is getting revenge on the troll who sent hate mail to Mrs MP's employer and colleagues. We still have those emails. Now, it's just a matter of waiting.

There is no hiding place.
