Passing Thoughts Of A Mad Priest (in the time of coronavirus)

The reason why NHS staff are dying as they wait for the Turkish government to allow a shipment of protective clothing to be flown to the UK is that, over the last forty years or so, our various governments (both right and left) have allowed the closure of our clothes manufacturing industry and the purchasing of our clothing needs from markets built on cheap labour, such as Turkey.

People are dying because of neoliberal capitalism. After the pandemic is over we really ought to try proper socialism for a refreshing change.

  1. I completely agree.

I’ve long thought that it needs to be seen as a security issue when manufactuing is done outside the country. Any country is setting itself up for a serious problem when essential products are made elsewhere.
