Before the 2019 presidential election, a prophet named Samuel Akinbodunse prophesied that if Muhammadu Buhari tried to seek a second term as president, he would die before the elections took place. He said a young person whose name starts with "S" would win the election instead. The acclaimed man of God who is based in South Africa was vehement in his claim.
However, it would seem that despite his certainty, Buhari did not only seek a second term, he also went on to be reelected. Akinbodunse explained the apparent failure of his prophecy was down to "some men of God" and himself organising forty days of fasting and praying just so they could reverse the prophecy. He quoted scripture in defence of his claim:
"Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 'Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.' And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: 'Go and tell Hezekiah, This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life’."
He then told reporters, ‘"The men of God in Nigeria conducted a forty days fasting and prayer for President Buhari which I participated in because Nigeria is one of the nations I regarded as my heartbeat. You can verify it on our official Facebook page."
