With One Major Exception

Cats are to be banned from New Zealand’s South Island. People will be allowed to keep their present cats but not allowed to own any more. The edict is part of a campaign to rid New Zealand of all non-native predators (the only native mammals being a couple of species of bats). I think we can safely assume that this will not include the most destructive, non-native predator, human beings who have been systematically wiping out the native fauna since Polynesians became the first people to arrive on the islands a mere seven hundred odd years ago.
