I am more than a bit worried about the clamour for Cameron to resign as prime minister because of his past involvement in an offshore tax avoidance scheme.
What if he acquiesces to the demands?
Who would become prime minister in his place?
In my opinion, all his prospective replacements are far viler, crueller and Machiavellian than he is. As devils that we know go, Cameron is by no means the worse option if, as democracy decrees, we have to have a tory prime minister.
Also, in politics it is best to call for ultimate sanctions only in the most absolute of extremities as your own man is no doubt covering up a multitude of sins just as embarrassing as the opposition's man (see Bill Clinton).
