I’m not a huge fan of Irish folk music because much of it is touristy and contrived and about as much to do with the real music of the Emerald Isle as Guinness has to do with real beer (e.g. nothing at all). But the young people in the band, Portherhead, are the real thing and they play the music of their native land as it should be played, without the schmaltz and phoney drunken Irishness. Their eponymous album released last year is very good indeed.
