No Way Back – Has Clergy Child Abuse Killed The Church?

There was a time, not that long ago, when a headline like this would have elicited approving comments from most community minded citizens. Nowadays, due to the almost beyond belief revelation of the pandemic of child abuse committed by clergy, not just of the Roman Catholic or even Christian variety, that has still not been properly addressed let alone stopped, the project referred to sounds like a very bad idea indeed. One that the local police should keep a sharp eye on.

Coming as it did at a time of rapidly decreasing support for organised religion in the developed world, the abomination of pastors using their position of being trusted to sexually abuse those in their care, may well be the final nail in the coffin of the Church in the West. I fear it will take a lot more than one saintly pope to reverse the damage done. In fact, the film "Calvary" probably has it right - Christ may to have to die all over again to pay for this particularly vile sin of his Father's most wicked creation.
