For the first fifteen years of my priesthood I earned a lot more money than my wife. Furthermore my posts provided us with a free roof over our heads and some rather generous tax breaks. Then I was sacked and for the last four years my wife has been, by far, the major contributor to our finances. Furthermore, she now provides us with a roof over our head.
Financially, she would, at this moment in time, be a lot better off without me.
So, I am incredibly grateful that she is not the sort of person who would vote yes to independence if she lived in Scotland.
