Mustat Silmät (the Black Eyes?) are a unique combination of old Finnish schlager, Slavic melancholy, Gypsy tunes and rhythm of American music. The orchestra's repertoire consists of own compositions, old popular songs, as well as a translation of selected songs that the orchestra interprets personal way.
They have played almost a thousand gigs in pubs, clubs, streets, ships, festivals and private parties both in Finland and abroad. They bring the listener a taste of the old metropolises, cafes and taverns - not to forget the Finnish dance styles and mid-summer magic.
Personally I like them. They sound like what Tom Waits would sound like if he had remained real. They have an eponymous album out at the moment on Rapu Records.
