I love this cartoon. I think it is well funny.
But I wonder if many of my compatriots will get it. The reason I say this is because the English appear, as a nation, to suffer from severe face blindness. We don't seem to get the clues about a person's character visible in their appearance or in their way of speaking and mannerisms.
I mean, look at this photograph. It is Michael Gove, our pain in the ass Secretary of State for Education.
Now look at this photograph. It is of Rowan Atkinson acting the part of a spiteful, rather stupid person who has no idea what is going on around him and who always ends up braking anything he touches.
I don't understand. When I look at a photo of Michael Gove I see "a spiteful, rather stupid person who has no idea what is going on around him and who always ends up braking anything he touches." When I listen to him speaking and observe his mannerisms my suspicions are very much enforced. Yet, at the last election, the majority of the voters in the constituency of Surrey Heath voted for him. Had they not seen his face? Had they not heard him speak? Or are they so manically conservative in those parts that they would vote for Mr Bean if he was wearing a blue rosette?
