THE BBC: Fibbing Their Way Into 2014

I have to admit that I really like the music show, Jools Holland's Hootenanny that spans the midnight hour between the years on BBC2 every year. But, on the other hand, it really gets on my wick that none of the celebs can be arsed to perform on the actual night and so the whole thing is recorded ages ago and the countdown to midnight is completely bogus. Therefore, this year, to get my own back in a way that will have absolutely no effect on anything but will make me feel smug, I'm going to record it and watch it one afternoon in a month or so's time.

  1. Over here we have Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve, in which noisy rock singers freeze their butts off while lip-syncing to pre-recorded music. (Among other things, this is likely an act of mercy as breathing in so much chilly air would likely cause pneumonia.) So the singing is recorded but the freezing is live. How’s that for compromise?
