An ultra-Orthodox mayor in Israel has said there are no homosexuals in his city — setting off a new round of outrage in the deeply divided town. The delusional comments from Moshe Abutbul, the Haredi mayor of Beit Shemesh came during a Friday interview on Israeli national television.
"We have none of those things (homosexuals) here. Thank God, this city is holy and pure," Abutbul said.
When asked how the city handles the gay community he replied, it was a matter for law enforcement. “There's the Health Ministry, let them handle it. The Health Ministry, the police.”
Abutbul was reelected last month, and is facing an investigation over alleged voter fraud.
