LITTLE ENGLAND

"England needs to start thinking about itself before it is too late" is an interesting article by Henry Porter, posted at THE GUARDIAN, about how the English will have to start being more like the Scottish (xenophobic and embarrassingly nationalistic) if the Scots vote for independence next year. Personally I believe the decision about independence should be left entirely to the Scots although I would be genuinely sad to no longer be a citizen of such a beautiful country. However, I am worried that many Scots may vote for independence for completely the wrong reasons, particularly with Alex Salmond stoking the fires of ignorance and myth at every opportunity. A nation that begins out of a hatred of the English is going to have all sorts of identity problems when its citizens discover that most of their problems were, in fact, the fault of the greedy bastards and power seekers of their own country and that they had been believing a lie as to do so is easier than growing up and accepting responsibility for their own actions - past, present and future.

  1. Some of us will not be voting ourselves out of the Union. It means we can despoil you from taxation and I’m too old to take up sheep rustling 🙂

  2. “the English will have to start being more like the Scottish (xenophobic and embarrassingly nationalistic)”

    Start?
