Back from checking the news release—
I assume you’re referring, MP, to PC’s “foul-mouthed spin doctor” role on “The Thick of It”: I’m not familiar w/ it myself (not sure that show has crossed the Pond).
I’d quite forgotten PC’s role in “The Fires of Pompeii” (w/ Ten & Donna Noble). What I *did* recall from the Whoniverse, was his outstanding performance as the tormented colloborating civil servant in “Torchwood: Children of Earth.”
Sigh: me and the grrls over at “AfterEllen” were really hoping for {drool—THUD} Jaime Murray (I also had a soft spot—as it were—for Sophie Okonedo. Dammit, we know the Doctor CAN regenerate as female, so why doesn’t the blighter?! >:-/)
On the other hand, a female doctor might well mean no more babes as the Doctor’s assistant.
He’ll be the oldest new doctor since William Hartnell, who was two months older when he started.
