WHAT HAVE THE AMERICANS EVER DONE FOR US?

BBC Radio Two was running a phone in this evening based on the question, "What has America ever done for us?' It was affectionate, of course, and my favourite answer was one of the first to be phoned in - Motown. If Americans loved themselves for the same things the rest of the world loves America for, and stopped being so goddamn proud of the stuff that the rest of the world really hates about America, they would be a much happier and contented people.

  1. As a former educator in Greater Motown: you’re welcome!

Now, go open a bottle of nice California vino, and toast us for Yet Another American Solid, on this our festal day…

  2. Perhaps the problem is that a great deal of what is great about America has come from the creative genius of black people, left-wingers and gay folk.
