FATHER RICHARD PEROZICH IMAGINESWHAT GAY BOYS MIGHT GET UP TO

Regarding the Boy Scouts of America's decision to allow "openly gay" Scouts, the well-known, right wing, homophobic clergyman, Father Richard Perozich of the Diocese of San Diego writes:

From a Catholic spiritual understanding, homosexual attraction is a strong tendency toward a moral evil. In no case can it be approved. Even a young Scout with this condition can be helped. If, however, he declares this condition as his identity with the right to act on it, the other Scouts need to be protected from him and the influence of his ideation, any homosexual sexual touching or talk, or invitation to participate in or to accept this evil.

large print edition of "Scouting for Boys"

I would not allow a child under my care to be near either another child or an adult who identifies with, encourages acceptance of, or practices homosexuality.

Our parish gave material support to the Scouts in our region until yesterday. We have withdrawn financial aid but will support them with prayer so that the adults retreat from their cowardice before the evil of homosexuality and its perpetrators, and be about protecting and forming young men according to classic Scout values in accord with Catholic teaching.

Mr Perozich is unmarried.

  1. I would not allow a child under my care to be near either another child or an adult…

“Because they might tell on me! (and my version of ‘child under my, um, care’)”

[“Fr Perozich”: yeah, he’s a dog’s itch alright. (Bite that itch, Coco! Bite it!)]

  2. Sigh. The RC Diocese of San Diego also gave us Salvatore Cordileone, now Abp of San Francisco, and tireless anti-gay campaigner (who insulted Epicopal bishop marc Andrus by refusing to seat Bp Andrus at Cordileone’s Coronation….er, consecration.) Bishop Sal is widely credited with being the father of Prop(H)8.

San Diego RC churches have on more than one occasion refused to hold funerals for gay men (In at least one case, that of John McCusker, you will be pleased to know that the Episcopal Cathedral stepped up to hold the funeral).

They have much to answer for.

  3. Sigh. San Diego also gave us “Bishop Sal”, the Father of Prop H8, now Abp of San Francisco (and notorious for keeping Episopal Bp marc Andrus in the basement and refusing to seat him at Abp Cordileone’s coronation).

San Diego RC churches have on more than one occasion refused to bury gay men. (You’ll be pleased to know that on one occasion, the dead man John McCusker was given a funeral by the Episcopal cathedral).

The SD RC diocese has much to answer for.

The SD Episcopal Diocese is friendly and fields one of the biggest contingents in the gay pride parade.

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of ex-RC in the Episcopal churches in SD.
