I'm a bit confused as to why the UK parliament is arguing about whether or not to extend the scope of civil partnerships to include opposite gender couples. Surely as soon as it becomes legal for same gender couples to marry in England we should simply stop the civil partnership facility altogether and for everyone. Otherwise we will be watering down and damaging the institution of marriage.
Yeah, I don’t get that either.
Neither do I, but I suspect that demand for civil partnerships will disappear once we have gay marriage. How many straight couples want them anyway?
