1. You are right. Advice is always dangerous. My instinct would be to say that the situation is more terrifying than your cartoon. You are walking in the dark towards that cliff edge and there is nobody to say ‘fly’ you are alone. The cliff edge is ahead of you, that you know, but ‘where’ is another question. It is the heart-stopping fear lurking in the darkness. You can turn back or walk on into the unknown.
    Every instinct says you are about to splat.
    It’s an illusion, reality is as close as a flick of the finger but how can you find the light switch alone in the dark?
    Useless as they seem well meaning friends at least try to tell you there is a switch.
