Hornsby residents Lynne Klanbida and Chad Martin wed at Tempe's Ikea on Thursday, having won the flatpack fairytale ahead of 500 other applicants.
"We got an email asking if we'd like to say our I do's at Ikea and we said that sounds like us. They asked for a photo of us and 100 words of why we thought we should win," said Chad.
Discount Nordic furniture holds a special place in the couple's relationship, as well as their home.
"The first time Chad put the TV unit together, I knew he was the one," Lynne said.
Fair enough. If it makes them happy, why not? It is legal after all. But I would like to know why people getting married in a furniture store, that opens on Sunday and exists only to make money for its shareholders, has less of a detrimental effect on the institution of marriage than two people of the same gender making their promises of eternal devotion to each other in Church, before the God they truly believe in.
