Mainstream Christianity, protestant, catholic and orthodox, is like a man who is given a cardboard box full of gold coins, who then believes that he is wealthy because he owns a cardboard box.

This thought disturbs me for many reasons. I need to analyse.
Because the cardboard box is marked “Christian” or “Geezus”? All about the Brand Label.
It’s because Christian expectations. Why can’t we hope for gold? Is that too materialistic?
Perhaps this means that many care more for the institution of the Church (the box) than they care for the actual Body of Christ (the people who make up that body represented by the gold)
I call it the sin of institutionalism. We value the box, the structure, and forget the value of the teachings. We do not love one another, care for one another, open the doors for all, lead any and all into the kingdom, because we are busy getting to be on the vestry, a bishop, or defending a boundary.
Lord have mercy!
