MADPRIEST’S ALTERNATIVE HAL DAVID TRIBUTE — 6 Comments

  1. I’ll add my vote of thanks. Those were the days, before the singer-songwriter ideal pressured people to feel that if they couldn’t write both music and Patrick’s they were somehow not real songwriters. This list, of course, gives the lie to that. Thanks again!

  2. Wow! What a soundtrack of the 60s–without psychedelia. I loved Hendrix and all those guys, but these songs are so nostalgic & evocative. Think I’ll go sit out in the back garden tomorrow with a glass of wine & listen again.

    Thanks so much.

  3. I say this w/ utter sincerity: I think that “What’s It All about, Alfie?” is the greatest gospel (GOOD News!) song ever written (“Something even non-believers can believe in—I believe in Love”).

That said, I really wish Cilla Black had made another take: one to let her *pitch* rise to the level of her passion! O_o [Cilla’s, Dionne’s and Cher’s versions all have different qualities to recommend them though]

Kudos for this wonderful tribute, MP.

RIP, Hal, and many, MANY thanks!
