HAPPY WEST VIRGINIA DAY

This song has absolutely nothing to do with West Virginia but what the heck, it's a great record and today's anniversary is as good a reason as any to play it.

HAPPY WEST VIRGINIA DAY — 6 Comments

  1. Ah, born and raised in WV. I guess next year is what, the 150th anniversary of statehood. Beautiful place, beautiful people, beautiful culture, very ugly politics.

  2. John Denver’s song didn’t have anything to do with West Virginia, either. It’s a lovely song and a beautiful place, but the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River are both in Virginia, not West Virginia.

  3. My peeps, the Fishers, are from western Virginia, too. Sweet? I’ll let you decide. ;-/

  4. OK,technically both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River touch the tip of West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle, a couple of counties over from our few acres. John Denver was not big on geography–the vast majority of both the mountains and the river are in other states.

  5. Can’t get the link to work or the song to sing, but always loved this track. As a somewhat self-obsessed young person, I identified with this: “sweet Virginia”.
