MADPRIEST’S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

On this day when we are celebrating our Queen's sixty years of monarchy let us turn for our moment from our jubilation and spare a thought for those countries that are not part of the British Commonwealth, especially the United States. Just think, if the republicans hadn't won the American War of Independence the people of the U.S.A. would today be just as civilised as the Canadians or even New Zealanders.

  1. I’m puzzled, why can’t there be a celebration of something positive in England without a negative jab at the US?

    P. S. Notice there is no mention of Australia on your “civilized” list :>) (sorry, Boaz!)

  2. I have been told that some of the younger Jensens have learnt how to wipe their arses with toilet paper after they have had a crap, Philomena. Is that what you are alluding to?

  3. I’ve always taken great pride in the fact that of all the former British colonies, we in the United States have gone out of our way to be as Unbritish as possible.

And as far as being civilized, you brits don’t even know how to spell the word.

  4. 😉 I don’t want to think that of our Republicans being in linear descent from the founding revolutionaries. This current crop of idiots is not even in linear descent from the Republicans of the 1950’s! Eisenhower would gag if he saw them.

  6. Hey, did someone mention Aussies?
As the Mad One says the Yankees could have been just as civilised as the Canadians or even New Zealanders. But there is no way that they could have been as civilised as an Aussie. Not yet.

  7. Definition: England. noun (1) A country ruled by the Queen of Canada. (2)Southern Scotland.

    ‘Nuff said.

  8. Personally I’d have no problem having Elizabeth as our Sovereign. It’s the jug-eared one married to the Rottweiler I can’t abide.
