JESUS WAS A REPUBLICAN

I've always believed that Jesus was a socialist. But I've now decided that he may well have been a free market capitalist.

Jesus was a Jew living in Palestine. All his original workers were local labour. Yet as soon as his company started to take off he closed down the Jerusalem operation and moved his head office to Italy.

That's blatant outsourcing. Heck, Jesus probably invented the vile practice.

  1. MP, intended in entirely the same spirit:

Surely the Patriarch of Jerusalem remained in place until the Caliphate conquered Jerusalem in 638? It wasn’t until about the tenth century that Rome started to emerge as the central patriarchy, and then only because it had split from the Jacobite and Orthodox churches.

Yes, Rome was always a very important patriarch among the five (Byzantium/Constantinople, Alexandria, Jerusalem, and Antioch) but it wasn’t the centre until long after the “taking off” had ceased.

So what we have now is not a removal of the head office coupled to a closure of the old business, but a demerger led by a subsidiary office that was trying to self-aggrandise itself at the expense of a struggling parent company. Monster capitalism at its worst, maybe?

As an aside, this also of course goes a long way to making a nonsense of some of the more lurid Catholic claims about continuity of practice/belief from the early church. Most of Roman Catholicism as it now is (as I’m sure you know) dates from the period after the schism – including such things as clerical celibacy and the intensely restricted role of women in the hierarchy.

  2. Then why aren’t there any female Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox clergy? Heck, women can’t even visit Mt. Athos.

  3. Yet as soon as his company started to take off he closed down the Jerusalem operation and moved his head office to Italy.

I protest! This wasn’t the Founder’s doing. It was the damn succeeding “sons” (esp. the rock-headed one)
