WORSHIP AT ST. LAIKA’S: 23RD. OCTOBER 2011HOLY COMMUNION ON BIBLE SUNDAY

All are welcome to join me in taking communion. There are no exceptions.

The order of service is posted beneath the audio file so that you can join in with the service. The words in bold type are the ones we say together.
If you want to physically partake of communion you will require a small piece of bread and a small amount of drink (preferably made from grapes and containing alcohol). You eat the bread after I say “The body of Christ,” and drink the wine after I say “The blood of Christ.” How you åview the nature of this part of the service is completely up to you.

INTRODUCTION
"Bible Book Bop" - Go Fish
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
"In these last days God has spoken to us by a Son, whom God appointed heir of all things, through whom God also created the worlds."
Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
CONFESSION

ABSOLUTION
"God's Word Will Never Pass Away" - Sister Gertrude Morgan
COLLECT
"Psalm 119 (Verses 1-32)" - Gloucester Cathedral Choir
FIRST READING
"Lord, Thy Word Abideth" - Ely Cathedral Choir

Lord, Thy Word abideth,
And our footsteps guideth;
Who its truth believeth
Light and joy receiveth.

When our foes are near us,
Then Thy Word doth cheer us,
Word of consolation,
Message of salvation.

When the storms are o'er us,
And dark clouds before us,
Then its light directeth,
And our way protecteth.

Who can tell the pleasure,
Who recount the treasure,
By Thy Word imparted
To the simple hearted?

Word of mercy, giving
Succor to the living;
Word of life, supplying
Comfort to the dying!

O that we, discerning,
Its most holy learning,
Lord, may love and fear Thee,
Evermore be near Thee!
Alleluia, alleluia.
"Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life."
Alleluia.
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
Glory to you, O Lord.
GOSPEL
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON
"Jesus Loves Me" - Cocorosie
We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us with power from on high.

We believe in God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
INTERCESSIONS
"A Love So Divine" - Robby Davis
THE PEACE
"Thou Whose Almighty Word" - Norwich Cathedral Choir

Thou, whose almighty Word
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight;
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And, where the Gospel-day
Sheds not its glorious ray,
Let there be light!

Thou, who didst come to bring
On Thy redeeming wing
Healing and sight,
Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
O now, to all mankind,
Let there be light!

Spirit of truth and love,
Life giving, holy Dove,
Speed forth Thy flight;
Move on the water’s face
Bearing the lamp of grace,
And, in earth’s darkest place,
Let there be light!

Blessèd and holy Three,
Glorious Trinity,
Wisdom, love, might!
Boundless as ocean’s tide,
Rolling in fullest pride,
Through the world far and wide,
Let there be light!

PRAYER OVER THE GIFT
The Lord is here.
God's Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is indeed right and good…
...for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord!  God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

How wonderful the works of your hands, O Lord…
…Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of faith.
Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.

Father, we plead with confidence…
in songs of everlasting praise:
Blessing and honour and glory and power
be yours for ever and ever. Amen.

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
have mercy on us.

Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
have mercy on us.

Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
grant us peace.
This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper.
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

The body of Christ.
The blood of Christ.
"Believe In God's Word (E Toru Nga Mea)" - John Bell
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
"Praise To God" - Belfast Cathedral Choir

Praise to God whose Word was spoken
in the deed that made the earth.
His the voice that called a nation;
his the fires that tried her worth.
God has spoken:
praise him for his saving word.

Praise to God whose word was written
in the Scripture's sacred page,
record of the revelation
showing God to every age.
God has spoken:
praise him for his saving word.

Praise to God whose Word incarnate
glorified the flesh of man.
Deeds and words and death and rising,
tell the grace in heaven's plan.
God has spoken:
praise him for his saving word.

Praise to God who through his Spirit
ever speaks his word to man;
Spirit dwelling deep within us,
Show us all the Father's plan
God is speaking:
praise him for his saving word.

Come to me and listen to my words;
hear me, and you shall have life.
Come to me and listen to my words;
hear me, and you shall have life.
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure and gives wisdom to the simple.
Hear me, and you shall have life.
The statutes of the Lord are right and rejoice the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure and gives light to the eyes.
Hear me, and you shall have life.
The fear of the Lord is clean and endures for ever;
the judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
Hear me, and you shall have life.
More to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey dripping from the honeycomb.
Come to me and listen to my words;
hear me, and you shall have life.
THE BLESSING
My sisters and brothers, go in the peace of Christ.
Thanks be to God.
