THE INEVITABLE DISAPPOINTMENT OF REVENGE

From THE BOSTON HERALD:

The mother of a slain Georgia police officer says she can’t believe that the execution of Troy Davis has taken place 22 years after he was convicted of killing her son. Anneliese MacPhail told The Associated Press that the feelings of relief and peace she has been waiting for all these years will come later. She says she is numb right now.

COMMENT: And, if she is lucky she will remain numb. If she is unlucky she will start feeling guilt and remorse. The two things she will never experience are the feelings of relief and peace. Revenge doesn't work like that. Peace is the fruit of forgiveness.

THE INEVITABLE DISAPPOINTMENT OF REVENGE — 6 Comments

  1. Well said, MP.
I wonder whether there has ever been proper research into the long term psychological frame of mind of people in this woman’s position?

  2. How very true, MP.

Last night was really horrible. My hope and prayer is that the execution of Troy Davis will have the effect of prompting and energizing a renewed movement to abolish the death penalty in this backward country.

  3. Oh, MP, what fine words! Thank you.

I doubt I will live long enough to see all US States give up judicial murder, but it’s bound to come…

    eventually….

  4. I will pray for Mrs MacPhail; I won’t comment on her.

My intense feelings of JUDGMENT are reserved for those in positions of Power-Over who made this happen. >:-(
