Repeated one hour later on Channel 4+1.
Thanks, Mad One – I will try to watch that on the repeat.
Watched it. What a complete hero. Lovely man, too – seemed really sweet and kind to everyone he spoke to.
Mind you I suppose an Anglican priest is not very likely to start smashing stuff up with baseball bats while the BBC is making a documentary about him.
Oh, get thee behind me, Satan!
oh I’m so pleased you said that, Mad Priest, because it gives me an excuse to repeat what the Guardian union rep Brian Williams told me the other day, that he has a friend who works in publishing and at one point they had to pulp an entire run of King James Bibles because they found there was a typo in that line that meant that it said: “Get thee behind me, Stan.”
Isn’t that what the reindeer said, Cathy?
Ray is Priest in Charge of the next parish over from me and is in the Deanery of which I am Lay Chair. He’s a lovely guy, has done a lot of good at St. George the Martyr, and has managed to pastor a church divided between deprived council estates on the one hand and stockbroker eyries in the sky on the other.
They kept this so quiet that I hadn’t heard about the program until yesterday noon. As for Ray’s sexual orientation, he had always pinged my gaydar but I wasn’t particularly fussed about it.
If you think that coming-out was hard, because of a historical anomaly St. George the Martyr with St. Alphege and St. Jude has not just two churchwardens but three. Managing three churchwardens is harder than coming out of the closet.
