"JOBS FOR THE BOYS’ WIVES" BISHOPTAKES HIS REWARD THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN

From THE JOURNAL:

The Bishop of Newcastle, the Right Reverend Martin Wharton has been given a CBE (in the New Year's Honours List) for his services to the Church of England and to the community of the North East.

COMMENT: I rang up and told a very well respected, senior, local clergyman about this and his first words were, "Why? He hasn't done anything!"

Perhaps it is his coldness of heart in his dealings with those in the diocese who he doesn't like that is being rewarded. In which case I think I know what the letters "CB" stand for. Maybe the "E" just stands for "Extra."

Happy New Year to MadPriest!
What an appropriate ending to a thoroughly rotten twelve months.

"JOBS FOR THE BOYS’ WIVES" BISHOPTAKES HIS REWARD THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN — 6 Comments

  1. MadPriest, you are responsible for the honor bestowed. Almost single-handedly, you made it happen. I’m sure the bishop is grateful. You’ll hear from him any time now with an expression of thanks.

  2. Love your snark, Mimi!

    MadPriest, that sucks.

    Well, he has his reward.

You know, the old Desert Fathers and Mothers used to say, “Flee bishops!”

They knew what they were talking about.

  3. Having watched it just last evening, I took a guilty pleasure at the way the bishop is portrayed in the 2005 French film “Joyeux Noel.” Loyal to the Crown, perhaps, but to the bishop who chastises the good Scottish Padre for his fraternizing with the enemy at Christmas, the Gospel seems foreign.

  4. Since posting my comment I have spoken to someone who knew the Bishop personally and had nice things to say. One man’s meat… I don’t know him myself, I hasten to add.

  5. There are people he likes and there are people he doesn’t like. A bishop should not let such personal prejudices affect his dealings with members of his flock. This bishop does.
