SHOCK FINDING – POOR GIVE MORECLAIMS NEW REPORT — 9 Comments

  1. Duh.

Those less well off understand what it is to be in need. They also know from experience that being in need is not necessarily a person’s own fault.

  2. Duh indeed. This phenomenon has already been extensively reported in the media and for a few years now. Another triumph for the School of the Bleeding Obvious.

  3. And why exactly is this shocking or surprising to anyone? As someone who has worked for most of my life with people who live in poverty, which was good training as it turned out, I found most to be among the most generous of folk. The community of the poor supports each other as best they can. Each knows they may be the one in need of help tomorrow.

Also, some people at least are permanently broke because they think money is there to do stuff and they chuck it around because it’s enjoyable, whether they spend it on themselves or on others – either feels good. Whereas some people who have got lots of money stashed away have managed that by being tightfisted. Getting rich doesn’t change that aspect of their personality. They prefer their money to make more money, not to achieve anything else.

I don’t think you graduated from that university at all, Mad Priest. If anyone has an oblique, lateral, skewed take on life, it’s you.

  5. @Cathy —

The folks with plenty of plenty
Got a lock on their door.
    Afraid somebody’s a-gonna rob them
    While they’re out a-making more.
    What for?

Porgy got it right all those years ago.

Was going to put in a link to Paul Robeson singing it, but amazingly I couldn’t easily find one.

As you say, the news about giving away money is seriously non-news.

  6. Porlock – thanks – exactly. If you find a link at some point can you please send it to Mad Priest?? … You may well be right, Mad Priest, but then he may well have recorded it anyway – Porgy also being baritone.
