OCICBW… PHOTO SCOOP — 35 Comments

  1. Could someone please get KJS some new vestments? Sometimes I think that set is the only one she owns.

  2. We love her vestments and had a great day — I was the master of ceremonies so can vouch for the new bishop — I sent him this photo. Thanks MP

  3. I hope you all noticed the fuzzy beard. It’s that sort of attention to detail that separates the mundane from the pure genius 🙂

  4. I like those vestments.

What a great thing to have a diocese with a sense of humor. Gives me hope for the Episcopal Church.

  5. Count me as liking the vestments, too. Bp. Katherine wore them in New Orleans when I attended the service in which she presided and preached. She looked quite attractive. I’ll add that all bishops would do well to ditch the silly hats.

  6. ++KJS vestments were made by Challwood Studios and are of silk, they represent the Nevada desert and the ocean of her studies before priesting – as well as a new dawn of leadership. The other set in the pix look like Almy’s drapery fabric.

  7. And I thought women bishops were supposed to bring common sense to the episcopacy. Mrs MadPriest never buys anything that is not machine washable and woe betide me if I ever do.

  9. Perhaps someone should give the Presiding Bishop some kind of travel-along steamer, or some such, to help her get the wrinkles out. That cope has been in and out of a vestment travel bad just once too often.

  10. Perhaps someone should give Grandmère Mimi one of those steamers, as well.

Oh, dear, I just know I’m going to get in big trouble for that one.

  11. If it comes to a wrinkled-look contest, Jonathan, you’d win, hands down, m’dear. Don’t forget, I’ve seen you.

And what’s wrong with Bp. Katharine wearing the same vestments over and over? The set probably cost a bundle of money, and why not get her money’s worth out of them? Is she to have new frocks each time she presides or preaches?

  12. The hat doesn’t go with the frock. Really, she could do with a couple of gay friends to advise her. Doesn’t Gene have any influence in her wardrobe? Why on earth doesn’t she ask for Dah-veed’s help?

  13. Challwood Studios is very gay – they also made Gene’s vestments. You need to see them in “real” to appreciate them.

  14. I’ve not dissed her vestments, Ann. I just said that her hat doesn’t go with them. Honestly, if she can’t even get that right she really ought to leave it up to someone who has a better eye. I’m not getting at her. She’s a scientist and we all know how style challenged scientists are.

  15. They match just fine.
I think they’re great vestments, always have. I am glad the PB looks like a bishop and not window dressing.

  16. I think Mimi needs your help as well, Dah-veed. But there’s no need to worry about the Scottish trip. The Scotts have less style savvy than Americans, and that is saying something.

  17. Having seen more of the set in photos of other appearances that she has made, such as her investiture as PB in TEC’s National Cathedral, the part the mitre matches MP is the back of the cope as well as the chasuble.
