BISHOP-SPEAK FOR BEGINNERS

From "INSPIRE"
(magazine of the Scottish Episcopal Church):

Bishop David is a good man, and may very well turn out to be a great bishop. But he ain't no living saint, PTL! In fact, he's wonderfully down to earth. So, my guess is that his statement above is actually bishop-speak for "OMG! Why me?"

  1. I teach my communication-challenged students that the “social fake” is an important life skill.

  2. That’s truly excellent, KJ! I like that expression. (“Social fake”) I think I need to nick it!

Hey, does this mean that Tom Wright will no longer serve as a diocesan bishop? If he’s leaving as Bishop of Durham, surely that’s cause for celebration?

  3. That’s correct, Ellie. If he wishes to preach or celebrate in an Anglican church in the St. Andrews Diocese he will need to get Bishop David’s permission. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not made an honorary assistant bishop or similar.

  4. Yeah, well I guess that would be the gracious and “proper” thing to do. It would probably be policially expedient as well. Still, Wright won’t have authority over people’s lives that way, will he?
