Why are the vast majority of jazz singers gorgeous to look at (especially when compared to singers of other types of music)?

  1. Peggy Lee was my all time favorite Lady to look at and listen to as a kid…when I was 15 I saw her in person and swooned at her puff of pink randy candy…later I actually lived near her and she had a reputation for being a tad mean…does this mean the majority ¨of jazz singer¨ fans are masochists or simply suckinables?

  2. To be honest, Leonardo, we’re not that interested in personalities at OCICBW… We tend to concentrate on the babeliciousness of people, not what’s in their heads.

  3. Because you’ll be singing in an environment where the audience will be duded up to the nines, too. Pretty begins as a state-of-mind.

[But the dim lighting sometimes helps! ;-)]

  4. Well, yes, Laurel (and, believe me, I’m no huge fan of vocal jazz). But I look at 500 or more CD covers every week and the percentage of stunning jazz singers (male and female) is very high.

I think it has something to do with class and taking the time to get the make-up just right (not something rock babes care about too much and R&B singers just want to look like hoodlums or tarts nowadays).

Oh, and your photo at Typepad is the slam dunk on my hypothesis.
