THE DIOCESE OF ROCHESTERWINS GOLD FOR HYPOCRISY

From KENT NEWS:

In response to the (WOMEN IN BONDAGE) episode, the Diocese of Rochester said: "Christians believe that all people are made in the image of God and are equal in God’s sight.

"The Church of England is a broad and embracing Church which believes in and promotes the sanctity of marriage and the uniqueness of the Bible.

"Members of the clergy interpret their priestly ministry in different ways and this is reflected in the rich variety of Anglican churches."

COMMENT: Equal? Broad and embracing? Rich variety?
This is Nazir-Ali's patch.
What a bunch of Kentish hypocrites!

  1. Rev MacLeay said that it was their responsibility as preachers not to let modern culture shape their understanding of the Bible.

I bet I can think of a few ways in which modern culture has influenced Rev MacLeay’s understanding of the Bible.

  2. They coped with me for years, they can’t all be bad.

Well maybe or maybe not. But one things for certain – they had the patience of Job.

  3. Rev MacLeay said that it was their responsibility as preachers not to let modern culture shape their understanding of the Bible.

As the pharisee said to the Son of God.

  4. These don’t-let-modern-culture-shape-your-theology types never seem to notice how much modern culture has influenced “gospel thinking” and “gospel behaviour” (to use their jargon) for the better.

It is modern culture that allows so much christian behaviour to flourish so unselfconsciously. Go back 50 or 100 or 200 years and you’ll see a society “Christian” in name with a lot less christian behaviour in terms of caring and concern for others.

What a great irony that, with the church seemingly in decline in numbers, modern culture allows so many of the gospel values and behaviours to flourish. Behaviours that are right off the pages of the Gospels.

So stick that in your pipe and smoke it Rev MacLeay.
