This is terrible. It is obvious that many of these children will not have been associating with other children that might grow up to be gay. So, there is absolutely no reason to kill them.

This barbaric and sickening practice will be supported, in part, by exactly the same people that the Ugandan minister of ethics cites when he says it's okay to oppress and kill gay people because that's what people in Uganda want.

No wonder the Ugandan church and state authorities don't want the West meddling in their cultural affairs.

MORE CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HEARTLAND OF ANGLICAN,COVENANTAL ORTHODOXY — 7 Comments

  1. So good to know that Henry Orotundi has his priorities in order.

  2. Grim indeed: but the report makes clear that this is not a part of traditional beliefs, but a recent and nasty developement. It’s also distinct to Northern Uganda which has the strongest animist tradition (as well as the nuttiest “christians” like the Lord’s Resistance Army). And in fairness the Govt is acting against this.

  3. Just for the record: I don’t know of a single neo-pagan who would condone human sacrifice, child or adult. Even the Santeros and the New Normans limit their blood sacrifices to animals, like chickens or goats.

  4. Also: many people in the neo-pagan and witchcraft world that I know are appalled at the use of the word “witch” and “witchcraft” here because they do not regard this as the same thing they practice, which is life-affirming. They also are concerned that this might set a precedent of persecution against witches who do not engage in human sacrifice.

The spirits *are* there. Make no mistake. But one can have a very fruitful relationship with them without the gore and horror and all that. Joe has a very positive relationship with the spirits and he’s never offered anything other than items like bread, ale, fruit, and a little tobacco. Oh, and himself, which is why he got that tattoo on his chest of Odin’s mark, the valknut. That was his blood sacrifice – his tattoo.

It sounds very odd, but I’ve seen this relationship between Joe and the Elder Kin and the landvaettir work very, very well with real-world results.

    Surely they would prefer spirits

  6. No, Cathy. Joe is never allowed anything other than ale BECAUSE of his “good relationship” with spirits. Giving a Viking “good mead” is always going to lead to an invasion of Lindisfarne situation. Best to keep them on nothing stronger than small beer and reindeer milk.

He prefers cider, actually. Plenty of hard cider. Apfelkorn is good too. 🙂
